Jay & Shilo: The Trouble With Tallulah
A new magical musical picture book for kids! Featuring an original song by Anthony Bastianon and Brett McCaig, and illustrated by Erin Cutler.
Imagine if the creatures from Narnia found themselves in The Phantom of the Opera.
Jay & Shilo is about siblings, Jay (10) and her younger brother Shilo (6), who live in the town called BroadEnd, inhabited by fantastical creatures who live in relative harmony with human beings like them.
But as you probably know, from time to time being a magical creature means you’re tough to live with. Witches might accidentally turn your dog into a toad, a ghost might prank you and fill your house with bubbles, a gnome might get squished by a large passerby, a pixie on a sugar-high might challenge you to a dance-off, or a fairy might bonk someone on the head as they fly by a little too fast. All this means the residents of BroadEnd have trouble getting along.
In BroadEnd, as it was years ago here on Earth, the Theatre is the centre of town. It’s a place where humans, trolls, wizards, pixies, talking trees, and the fantastical come together to tell stories to learn how to get along.
Jay and Shilo, who have taken up residence in the Flies of the theatre, have become de facto mediators in BroadEnd, helping everybody from Fairies to Phantoms use music and theatre to resolve their differences.
As in real life Broadway, there’s no problem a good song and dance can’t solve! As Jay and Shilo help creatures resolve disputes, collaborate, and understand their differences, they also learn how to draw, to sing, to act, and to be better siblings.
Jay & Shilo inspires kids to share, be brave, to stand up for themselves and others, and (most importantly to parents) to get along with their siblings!
