Fiddler Show Week and I'm a NaNo Winner!

I did it! I spent the past month working hard to complete a novel. I participated in the National Novel Writing Month where participants have the month of November to write a novel of at least 50,000 words. Last night, I became a winner!

My novel is the story of a family who take their children, and a couple of their friends, and flee the zombie outbreak by running to the arctic tundra. It kind of worked out to be a cross between The Swiss Family Robinson and zombies.

The novel is made up entirely of diary entries from the point of view of the mother. I am pretty pleased with how it turned out. My final word count by the end was 51,144 words. It's only a first draft, and it really needs some editing. We'll see where it goes form here.

This week was also show week for Fiddler on the Roof. It was my first time back on stage since I became pregnant with the triplets. I was horribly nervous, but had an amazing time! We even got a couple of reviews! They can be found here and here. We sold well, and the reviewers liked us! I'm pretty proud of our show.

Now that it's over, I definitely miss my little Anatevka family terribly. Can't wait until I can work with them again.

For a special treat, for those of you who missed the show, here's the bottle dance from Tzeitel and Motel's wedding:
I also have some more pictures from backstage, and from our dress rehearsal. Enjoy!

Show Week and NaNoWriMo

Well, it's show week for Fiddler on the Roof. We are currently in the theatre right now, and I'm watching the director and the technicians try to light the dream sequence. I'm not in the scene as I'm playing Tzeitel and I have the mother of all costume changes at this point in the show.

I am also in the midst of working on my book for NaNoWriMo. Currently I'm at over 38,000 words, and I'm having such fun writing it!

I feel this week I may have bitten off a bit more than I could chew, but I'll get through it. I always do.

Brian is right now in Winnipeg for the opening of Angelwalk Theatre's co-production with Winnipeg Studio Theatre of the Canadian premiere of Ordinary Days. Can't wait until it comes to Toronto and I can see it!

Anyway, this week I have Fiddler's tech run (today), dress rehearsal (Tuesday), and the performances. Fun! This is a fantastic and talented group of people. The show runs from November 21-25 at the Richmond Hill Centre for the Performing Arts. Go to www.steppinout.ca for more information.

NaNoWriMo!

I have embarked on a novel writing adventure! I have taken a short break from the world of Hadariah to write a zombie novel. This book I am formatting a little differently: it will be comprised entirely out of diary entries and will tell of one family's desperate struggle to escape the zombie hordes with their lives. I kind of think of it as " Swiss Family Robinson" meets zombies. Thus far it is over 16,000 words, and the NaNoWriMo goal is 50,000 words by November 30. Wish me luck!

In other news: rehearsals for Steppin' Out Theatrical Productions "Fiddler on the Roof" are well underway, and I'm playing the role of Tzeitel. If you're around the GTA between November 21-25, check it out! Details are here: www.steppinout.ca
